Antipathy
Multimedia installation
2017
Shiv Nadar University, Dadri
This is a portrait of a space that is built upon an intentionally dried up wetland, and the project entered the belly, and the foot of the space I was in. This project was executed at the Shiv Nadar University, Greater Noida, and the site caused and overlooked a diminishing lake. Using the dried-up wetlands as a starting point, the project explored the antipathy of oil and water: objects cast themselves as plaster absorbed moisture from Gelatin and agar agar, the cold white lighting attempted to create clinical atmosphere like that of a hospital, the rustling sounds of a butter paper column contained the air of the fan and added to the dryness. The room where it was conceived had shiny enamel painted walls, which I painted with a wet clay – and several other elements added to the mise-en scene. I connected these phenomena with diseased skin – and the landscape became an ailing body.
'Squish' is a site specific video played on a screen placed on the floor.
