In order to engage further in a craft tradition and understand their grammar- I applied for a 15- day Togalu Gombeyatta workshop with Gundu Raju in Hassan, Kanataka. The tradition relies primarily on human and animal figures, and did not have any insect puppets. These dung beetles were made after several drafts, and collaboration - a new addition to the Togalu Gombeyetta language .
Gundu Raju Ji is internationally celebrated and he, along with his family has been performing and making puppets since the last seven generations at least, and he is keeping the tradition alive.
